KINDERGARTEN
Sunflowers
|
Students learned about Vincent Van Gogh. We looked at real photos of sunflowers and discussed implied vs real texture. Students drew out their sunflowers and used blending techniques with their oil pastels.
|
MLK Jr. Portraits
|
Kindergarteners worked on their Martin Luther King Jr. portraits. Every year, Ms. Wayne chooses a portrait to go on the front cover of our King yearbook and some to go on the back cover as well. Ms. Erickson has been teaching Kinder artists about self-portraits, and they used their knowledge to draw their MLK portraits.

Matisse-Inspired Gold Fish Bowls
|
Students learned about Henri Matisse and looked at The Goldfish painting. We learned that he was inspired by his environment around him and that he had a goldfish bowl at his house that he used as inspiration. Kindergarten artists painted paper and cut out their goldfish bowls and added hand drawn seaweed, bubbles, castles and caves, and pebbles and rocks. They cut goldfish to add and then finished off their pieces with flowers and plants surrounding the goldfish bowl.

Hearts
|
Kindergarten artists learned about Jim Dine, a pop artist who used the heart symbol in his paintings and sculptures. It was quite fitting to make heart paintings on Valentine's day!

Sunflowers
|

We brought some cheery color and happy sunflowers into the art room with this project inspired by Vincent VanGogh. We talked about still life artworks and looked at real photographs of sunflowers while discussing the parts of the plant. We continued talking about real and implied texture and used rubbing plates to add texture to the middle of our sunflowers. |
Textured Owls
|
See our textured owl artworks on our Artsonia page here.
The beginnings of the owl projects! Students learned how to use ovals and circles to draw their owls and then began to rip a variety of browns and black paper for the textured feathers. We also talked about other examples of REAL texture - smooth, curly and bumpy hair, rough rug, smooth whiteboard, soft shirts, etc. |
Art Centers
|
Such interesting artworks always come from an art centers day!

Pumpkin Patch Drawings at King
|
This artwork fit right alongside the Kinder's trip to the apple orchard and pumpkin patch! Students were introduced to foreground, middle ground, and background, and learned how to draw pumpkins.

Symmetrical Painted Paper Leaves |
See our symmetrical leaf artworks on our Artsonia page here.
Kindergarten students at King printed with various printing tools to create some beautiful painted paper. Once they dried, the students folded the paper in half, chose a leaf to trace, and then cut along the line. They opened up the paper, glued it down, and cut primary and secondary veins to add to their leaves. |
Leaf Rubbings |
Students observed leaves that were picked up from King's campus and used them for leaf rubbings. The students simultaneously worked on making colorful circles with markers and clear water for blending. The marker colors transferred onto the leaf rubbings and then the circles were later cut into leaf shapes.
