Robots |
Second graders shared out their knowledge on robots. What they are, what they do, where we find them, what they are made of. After looking at some examples of robots many of the students know about (Wal-E, Robots the movie), students were challenged to create a robot that has a special power to make the world a better place. The first step to this project was sketching at least two robot ideas in their sketchbooks, and then taking their best one and drawing it on larger paper.

Henri Rousseau Inspired Jungles
|
Students looked at Exotic Landscape as inspiration for their jungle artwork. We used Visual Thinking Strategies for looking at the artwork where I asked the students "What do you see?", "What makes you say that?", etc.
They practiced drawing animals starting with ovals for the animal's bodies. They chose their favorite to color in and cut out to add to their artwork. They used collaged paper elements to create their jungle scenes and added the animals into the tall grasses. See their finished jungle artwork on Artsonia here. |
Patterned Watercolor Leaves |
Second grade students at Angell practiced drawing a variety of leaf shapes in their sketchbooks. They chose their favorite to make a large drawing of. Line types were discussed and then students added a line or shape pattern to each section of their leaf with crayon. Liquid watercolors were used to paint in the artwork.
